Start with rock 'n roll. Just as you learn to walk before you run, it is best to learn to rock 'n roll before you swing. They are actually the same dance just with different timing and varying degrees of footwork.
What is Swing Dancing?
‘Swing’ dance actually forms an umbrella featuring multiple dance styles. Swing includes rock ‘n roll, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Hustle, Boogie Woogie, Lindy hop, Balboa… and more. What do they all have in common? The music is fun and upbeat with lots of spins and turns. For the dance nerds out there: They also use the same footwork known as ‘ball flat’.
At QuickSteps we teach East Coast Swing in both a triple (swing) and single (rock ‘n roll) tempo.
